#reverbbroads11 – You want me to do What?

Is volunteering something you do regularly? If yes, where do you volunteer? If not, why not?

Ok, I admit it…  I’m not much of a volunteer-type gal, at least not in the terms of charitable organizations or causes.  Although, I have been seriously considering volunteering my horsie skills at a local horse rescue after the holidays, but I suppose it doesn’t really count if I haven’t done it yet…

My volunteer efforts have manifested mostly within my spiritual circles.  As I may have mentioned before, I’m what one would call an “intuitive reader”.   More commonly, I’m referred to as a psychic (although I really dislike this description, it’s the one most people can relate to).    I’m also Reiki II attuned and have received the 9 rites of the Munay Ki.  “What does this have to do with volunteering?”, you ask?  Well, I do a lot of readings for free, or rather I volunteer a large part of my time to provide insight and healing to those that need it.

A friend and I have an online radio show where we discuss spiritual/supernatural topics, and regularly give free readings to our listeners.  Currently, all my Reiki treatments are free, mainly because I feel I am still learning and I don’t feel comfy charging while I’m still in the learning process, but also because I wouldn’t want anyone to suffer needlessly because they can’t pay.  I’m very torn about the whole “to charge or not to charge” thing when it comes to healing practices.  The jury is still out on that one…

I have also started providing Wiccan Year-and-a-day training for a couple of my covenmates (Yup folks, I’m in a coven).  I’m never done the teacher thing before, which I’m sure is showing in spades during lectures.  I’m more of a “show-er” and the “teller” really.  I’ll be happy when the book learning is done and we can move on into practice, then things will get fun!

So, my volunteer efforts are a little unconventional, but I like to think I’m doing some good for those that need it (people tell me I am anyway).  Maybe in the years to come I will become more politically/charity active, who knows.  But for now, this is my calling. 🙂
