Church goers flee…

Sometimes I wonder if church services really do anything for their members…

Yesterday my horn choir had a performance at a local church. When I arrived, the parking lot was completely full, so I had to park about 1/2 block down the street. It was confirmation Sunday so there was a pretty big crowd. From what I saw of the service, it was more positive based than negative (preached the “sing praise, be kind to your neighbor”, etc, rather than “Be good or you’re going to hell”). So, when it came time to leave, I was in my car on the street, which was about 4 car lengths from a stop sign in the direction I needed to go. Car after car were piling out of the parking lot and they were starting to back up at the stop sign. I figured “Ok, these folks just came from a nice positive church service, one of them will be nice and let me in”. So I turned on my turn signal and waited… and waited… and WAITED… I waited 5 minutes, and NOT ONE person made a space for me to get in. Finally I gave up and just made my own lane and took a right at the stop sign, which took me waaay out of my way to get home.

Now, if I had had any pagan paraphinalia on my car or myself, maybe I coulda understood it, but there wasn’t. They were just a whole slew of Christians trying frantically to get away from their church (or they were too mind-numbed that they weren’t paying attention). I’ve experienced more accommodating drivers on the Chicago freeways…
